W. E. B. Du Bois was a public intellectual, sociologist, and activist on behalf of the African American community. In 2002, the Tourette Syndrome Association formed the TS Behavioral Sciences Consortium (BSC). The charge of the BSC was to develop and test nonpharmacological treatment options for individuals, both children and adults with Tourette Syndrome. In Ways of Listening, musicologist Eric Clarke explores musical meaning, music's critical function in human lives, and the relationship between listening and musical material. The way we hear and understand music is not simply a function of our brain structure or of the musical "codes" given to us żeby culture, Clarke argues.
